Trial Pitting involves the mechanical excavation of “Trial pits” using JCB 3CX excavators or similar to excavate through the shallow subsoils beneath the surface to investigate the ground conditions. Trial pitting is used to facilitate chemical and geotechnical sampling and to gain a profile of the sub surface ground conditions.
Trial Pitting can be used for purposes such as investigating contaminated land, geotechnical investigations and mine shaft location. It can also be used for the location of buried structures such as basements and former foundations via trail trenching.
